  2. Downspouts are usually 13 feet for a one-story home and 23 feet for a two-story home. Count the number of downspouts you have in your home currently.

Now we also understand that while the gutter calculator tool to estimate the costs of new gutters is pretty straightforward, sometimes utilizing this tool can be tricky if you’re not a gutter pro ๐Ÿ˜Š.

Don’t worry; today, we will walk you through our step-by-step “How to” guide!

How to use our Gutter Calculator & Estimator:

Below are the quick steps to help you use our gutter calculator. Think of it like a super easy instruction manual ๐Ÿ˜Ž.

1. Select the size of your aluminum gutters

choose gutter size

When it comes to aluminum gutters, you can pick from two sizes:

  1. 5-inch gutters
  2. 6-inch gutters

These are the most common sizes for aluminum gutters. Bigger and smaller sizes are rarely used, and most companies don’t offer other sizes. If you are wondering which gutter you should select, we recommend six-inch gutters. Most homes come standard with six-inch gutters nowadays, but they used to use five-inch if your home is older.

When replacing gutters, most homeowners will go with the bigger gutter since they’re better equipped to handle large rain storms. The bigger gutters also allow for more oversized downspouts, displacing water at a quicker rate! Really, the choice is yours, but we almost always recommend 6-inch gutters unless the fascia area doesn’t support them.

2. Choose the color of your gutters

pick gutter color

The incredible upside to aluminum gutters isn’t just their durability or price point, but it is the customization! Seamless aluminum rain gutters offer a variety of colors to pick from, and you can view all 34 color options here.

Simply look at your current gutters and color-match them. In West Texas, a variety of browns are used and many modern homes use darker colors. If you want to try a new color, you can select the color you think you would like and note in the comments section you would like to see some color samples.

3. Estimate the length of your rain gutters

gutter length estimate

To get the most accurate estimate on your gutter replacement, you must measure how much rain guttering your home will need. Doing this is pretty simple, and there are a few ways to do it!

  1. Get the plat of your home. The most accurate way to measure your home’s gutters is to find your home plat. It will contain the details of the dimensions of your home. Make a copy and walk around your house, marking the measurements. Simply total them up after.
  2. Use a measuring app on your phone. Measurement apps like AR Ruler can help you accurately measure from point to point. Use it to measure one end of your seamless gutters to the other and jot that number down. Complete the process until you have your total length.
  3. Try using a map tool. You can use Google Maps to search for your home and use the measuring instrument to measure your home, or use rough estimates (if the front of your home is 40′ across and there is one long gutter, you can estimate that at 40′).
  4. Count your downspouts. Downspouts are usually 13 feet for a one-story home and 23 feet for a two-story house. Count the number of downspouts you have in your home currently. For example, if you have five downspouts on a one-story home, you have a total length of 65′ for downspouts.

Aluminum gutters and downspouts cost the same per linear foot, so as long as your totals are close to the total lengths, you will have a very accurate pricing gauge. Just remember, this is an estimate! The final calculation will be measured when our install team measures materials before completing any work.

4. Extras

Once you input the measurements for your gutters, you will get an estimate for replacing your gutters. If you decide you want to install gutter guards as an optional add-on, you can make a note of that. Gutter guards are only placed on the actual gutters, not the downspouts.

5. Schedule your installation!

Once you submit your information, you can actually schedule your installation! We will of course, do our best to accommodate this as sometimes aluminum availability can vary. However, we try to make the process as simple as possible!
