1. How much do new gutters cost?

Aluminum gutters installed can cost anywhere from $5.50 a foot on the low end to $10+ per linear foot on the high end. Two factors will determine the cost of your gutters:

  1. The linear length of total guttering needed to install new gutters
  2. The gutter material you select

Aluminum gutters are the most commonly used gutter material but other materials, such as copper or steel gutters, can cost significantly more. The cheapest and worst gutters to install are vinyl gutters (virtually no homeowners use vinyl gutters).

2. Why do I need gutters in the first place?

We alluded to it earlier, but gutters protect your home. You need gutters to prevent mold, moss mildew, leaks, and erosion around your home. Gutters also add curb appeal to your home, with many gutter companies offering a variety of colors to choose from.

3. Why should I replace my gutters?

If your gutters are leaking, missing, or damaged, it could mean you need to replace your gutters. There are times when a gutter repair is necessary. However, most gutter contractors will charge a minimum fee for gutter calls. With the costs to replace gutters being relatively low, most of the time, new gutters are a better decision for a homeowner.

Replace gutters when:

  • Repair costs exceed 50% of replacement costs
  • You have leaky gutters
  • Your gutters are not performing well, bent, damaged, or missing.

4. What are seamless gutters?

rain gutters

Seamless gutters are exactly what you envision when you think of gutters. Long gutter runs with no breaks that are custom fit for each section of your home’s roof edge. Seamless gutters are essential to avoid leaks and issues.

5. Which gutters are right for me?

In most cases, seamless aluminum gutters are the best bet for virtually all homeowners. With endless color options such as black, brown, bronze, green, white, eggshell, gray, and more – most people love the selection aluminum gutters provide.

Copper and other gutters are super expensive.

6. What are the different types of gutters available?

The types of gutters that are most common include:

  • Aluminum gutters (most common)
  • Copper gutters
  • Steel gutters
  • Vinyl gutters (not recommended)

They can come in a variety of sizes, and there are both seamless and sectional gutters. Do not install sectional gutters on your home or use old-school gutter spikes when you get new gutters.

7. What size gutters do you install?

5 inch gutters
6 inch gutters

When the team here at Genunie Exteriors goes to install gutters, we almost always recommend six-inch gutters. Seamless aluminum gutter systems come in various sizes from 4 inches to 9 inches, but the common sizes installed for homes is either 5″ or 6″ gutters.

8. What are rain gutters?

Rain gutters are long trough-shaped channels that hold and move water away from your home’s roof during storms. Most homeowners have gutters mounted to their home’s fascia boards.

9. How do I know if I need a gutter repair or new gutters?

When you reach out to a gutter contractor, ask them if they first do gutter inspections. While it is a case-by-case basis, most of the time, the signs that you need a gutter repair is if you just have an isolated leak or issue and your gutters are still new.

If you have older gutters (8+ years) with several issues or gutter spikes, you might want to consider new gutters. Screw-in hidden hangers are now used to install gutters, and new aluminum gutters are relatively inexpensive.

10. Why should you get gutter cleaning?

Gutter cleaning is vital to preserving your home’s gutters and preventing damage. Without regular gutter cleaning or gutter covers, you leave your gutters susceptible to clogs, leaves, sticks, other debris, and rodents. Clogged gutters can break and lead to water damage.

11. Should I DIY gutters?

Do you know how to level gutters, or what about facing your gutters in the right direction? While those questions are simple to answer, installing gutters on your own is challenging and also dangerous. Most people should hire a gutter pro instead of trying to do a DIY gutter job.

12. What styles of gutters are there?

k style gutters
u style gutters

The most common styles of gutters are “K-style” and “Half-round style.” Most gutters come in the “K-style,” and downspouts are often rectangular. Your downspout is also an important component of your gutters.

13. Should I get gutter guards?

gutter guards

A common question is the “Should I install gutter guards?” question. Most companies don’t offer a gutter warranty, and when it comes to gutter guards, they’re not all created equally.

If you can find a gutter guard that is clog-free and doesn’t require cleaning you should use it. Raindrop is one of the only brands that offer both of these.

14. Where do I find a gutter installer?

Gutter installers are simple to find. You can search online or ask someone on social media. Just make sure to ask if they offer a no-obligation estimate and if they’re licensed/bonded.

15. Are you a licensed Gutter Company?

We get this question often, are you a licensed company? The answer is an emphatic YES! Also, don’t be afraid to ask companies this question.
